Best known for his Oscar-winning role in Capote, actor Phillip Seymour Hoffman has passed away of an apparent heroin overdose. He was 46.
Highly respected by both fans and the academy, Hoffman starred in films as diverse as Almost Famous, The Savages and his latest, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. The Brophisticate favorite, however, is his nearly-forgotten performance in Boogie Nights.
Hoffman, a father of three, was found alone with a needle in his arm in the bathroom of his New York apartment. Police sources said two bags of heroin were found at the scene. Police officially responded to the home at 11:36 a.m. and found Hoffman lying unconscious and unresponsive on the bathroom floor. He was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Hoffman, who debuted as an addition to the “Hunger Games” franchise in its second installment “Catching Fire,” was in the middle of filming the last film in the trilogy – “Mockingjay Part 2.”
