[Exclusive Interview] French Comics Come to Comixology

imageWhat’s the biggest thing in the world of comics this weekend besides the San Diego Comicon? France’s largest comic publisher, Delcourt Group, is now available for sale on Comixology. We sat down with Chip Mosher, VP Communications and Marketing, Comixology, to learn more.

How stoked is Comixology to have Delcourt in the fold?

ComiXology couldn’t be more ecstatic by this new publishing program with Delcourt. We’re all big fans of BD and launching a sustained weekly digital publishing program exclusively with Delcourt couldn’t be more exciting. There are not many chances in a career where you get to be part of introducing a new category of comics to the U.S. market in a big way and this is one of those chances. Manga was the last big international content category that Americans took to and BD is the next wave. Comic fans will love it.

What are some of the advantages to having the largest independent French comic publisher on board?

Delcourt is the largest independent publisher in France. They have a deep list of strong, vibrant and diverse titles. If you have yet to try these books, run, don’t walk, to comixology.com and pick them up.

What are some of the hottest Delcourt comics right now and which ones should we be looking out for that have yet to be discovered? All of them look very promising!

There are six debut titles that we are focusing on this week. Spin Angels is Da Vinci Code meets Alias. Iron Squad is a great alternate history that explores the world of mecha after we’ve lost the war. Curse of the Wendigo, drawn by The Walking Dead’s Charlie Adlard is a monster story set in the trenches of WW1. Promethee is a futuristic time traveling action adventure story. Josephine is Sex and City in Paris. And finally, our first full graphic novel from Delcourt is Come Prima by Alfred, which won the highest honor at last year’s Angouleme — which if France’s version of Comic-Con International. It’s a deep, personal story about two brothers on a road trip trying to come to terms with their difficult relationship. It’s a fantastic graphic novel that should not be missed.
