Cabin In The Woods Leaves Your Breath Minty Fresh

Like us you’ve probably had friends and coworkers give accounts of Joss Whedon’s recent “Cabin In The Woods” that were all over the map, and perhaps even hard to understand.  As life-long horror movie aficionados, let us tell you that it is absolutely worth seeing at the theater. Does it offer the same nonstop suspense as say a Paranormal Activity or The Grudge, putting you on the edge of your seat as to what will happen next (and you know if won’t be pretty)?  Yes.  And, no.  The genius of Cabin In the Woods is that it in fact pokes fun at itself that at it’s core it is a really bad horror movie.  It starts out having all of the ingredients–a jock, a slut, a nerd, a virgin, and a stoner who all decide to get away to a cabin….wait for it….in the woods.  Then, (and this is where we want to be careful, we love it and do not want to spoil anything), things take a turn that leaves you intrigued with a bigger picture, and characters and dimensions of the plot that will not become clear until the end.  It’s a horror movie for someone who appreciates originality and who has seen enough good and bad horror flicks to appreciate a truly good one.
